I have the experience, I will get the job done.
I am ready to serve as your Mayor.

Commitment

I am very passionate about our region and look forward to leading a very positive group of councillors for the next 4 years.

As your Mayor I will take the time to discover the talents that will lie within the councillors and make sure they are given every opportunity to use their individual expertise in Council. It will be my priority to really push this along.

I will investigate all revenue raising sources to alleviate the pressure on ratepayers.

I will also explore different models of service delivery to make sure we are getting value for money when it comes to providing services to the community.

I will make sure our purchasing power gives us the best value for money possible. Joint regional purchasing with our neighbouring regional councils needs to be investigated to make sure we can maximise on the value for money in our contracts.

The provision of infrastructure is the key to the progress of our region and different delivery models such as joint ventures and private/public partnerships needs to be investigated to again deliver the best value for money for the rate payers.

I will work with the State government to make sure our good quality agriculture land is managed in sustainable manner to enable this region to remain one of the important food growing regions in the state. This can be achieved through good planning principles and I will continue to work with the agriculture and farming industry to achieve this goal.

As your Mayor I will make sure I do everything in my power to fast track development, help cut through the red tape and deliver subdivisions on the ground so the building industry can get on with the job of building houses and retail centres to service the needs of our growing community.

I will have conversations with the banking industry to make sure this region has access to finance to enable business and industry to invest in our region.

This is not a 9-5 position. I have the time and the commitment needed to attend the many meetings, functions and activities that occur in the evening and on the weekends.

As a Mackay Regional Council Councillor

Over the past four years I have been part of developing the following:

• Community Plan
• Corporate Plan
• Long term Financial Plan for Council (some strategies already implemented)
• Infrastructure Priority Plan
• Water Strategy
• Waste Water Strategy (sewerage)
• Waste Strategy
• Natural Environment Plan (which provides direction to manage our beaches, foreshores and reserves)
• The MRC Policy Position Paper on protecting suitable land for sugar cane production
• A new Town Plan for the Mackay Regional Council area (work in progress)
• Arts and Cultural Plan

Council's Community Plan is the overarching document that has been formulated - as required by legislation and sets the overall vision for our council area.

Input was sought from community members, State and Federal government department stakeholders, community organisations, business and industry, to make sure we captured what you wanted.

Council has also established the Sustainable Futures Advisory Committee. This committee advises council on how to reduce council's greenhouse gas emissions, how to mitigate the effect of climate change and how council can work with the community, business and industry in addressing these issues and share information on sustainability initiatives.
