Who is Karen May?

That's a very reasonable question and so I am inviting you into my web site to answer it and give you an insight into what makes me tick.

I am passionate about our region and believe that this election is about YOU and YOUR vision.

I'm a great listener and will always hear what YOU have to say.

I've been an active participant in local government and have been able to influence many good outcomes through negotiating and not grand standing.

I have experience where it counts - right here in my home region of Mackay. I am proud of my record, but I'm not done yet. As Mayor, I will offer new ideas for an ever-changing and growing city and region .

I am not autocratic and want to lead a group of people who bring fresh ideas to the table.

I may not always be able to deliver what you want but I guarantee that I will investigate the issues thoroughly and tell you why not, if that is the case.

Above all, I am a very genuine person and REAL in my approach to life and work.

My Pledge

Many people don't realise that the Mayor's job primarily is to lead and motivate the council into serving the region's people in the best possible way.

With 12 years' experience in local government, having held the position of Councillor, Deputy Mayor and Mayor as part of the Sarina Shire Council and four years as Councillor for the Mackay Regional Council, I already know our region's government both inside and out.

I will forge ahead with the job of providing quality services and the necessary infrastructure to maintain our current positive cycle of growth, investment and development for the whole region.
